Well, as of August 12, we have delivered about 200 pounds of vegetables to the Arlington Food Assistance Center! Just a fantastic crop this year. We are heavily into harvesting, particularly with the tomatoes. Our volunteer corps continues to grow as people want to help.

While the ranks of volunteers were a little thin today (think hot, think showers) the garden is just doing great! Next up are bamboo pole teepees for beans. The zucchini are looking great!

what a beautiful weekend for gardening!

We spent many hours this weekend planting basil, lettuce, chard, tomatoes and beets. We also had an impromptu cookout with bratwurst and hotdogs and it was terrific! We are already looking forward to the harvest time! Always looking to eat and have fellowship! Our thanks to Hanson, Anne, Ted, Will, Jackie, Sara, Janey, Christopher, Jim..........and Ginger the dog!

A perfect Memorial Day Weekend in the Garden

A beautiful weekend with perfect weather and lots of progress. We planted basil, chard, lettuce, tomatoes, and beets. And thanks to Anne and Ted Edwards, we had a cookout with bratwurst and hot dogs! Impromptu and really fun. I think we may have started something here! It is so exciting to be at this point - we're already anticipating a harvest party!

Another great day in the garden. We have a new appreciation of the hard work needed and are indebted to Hanson! Today we planted zucchini......onions were already planted by Hanson.....we continue to remove rocks and we set up the first of 3 compost containers (from Arlington County). We watered the first plants. We're hoping to get a delivery of horse manure (a gift) soon. And anxiously await rain!

Thanks to Hanson and Jim, we now have a garden! We started last week but had some equipment failure but after putting our heads together and the joys of Arlington and the resources out there, we rented a roto tiller and a little pickup truck and the tilling got done!

Thanks to Hanson and Jim, the vegetable garden was tilled today! We started last week but were met with some equipment failure. But you just have to love Arlington! Within a mile we have Arlington Rental Works who had a rototiller and Hertz had a pickup truck so voila!
